Data sources and report limits

Transparency matters. dr vin separates official VIN decoding from accident-history claims so users can understand the scope of every result.

Primary technical source

The vehicle identity and specification fields are decoded through the public NHTSA vPIC service. Returned data can include manufacturer, make, model, model year, body class, engine, plant and safety-equipment fields. Availability depends on the manufacturer’s submitted data and the model year.

What is not included

The connected free decoder does not provide a complete VIN-specific accident, title, ownership, insurance, auction, theft or odometer history. The absence of a record on this site must never be interpreted as proof that an event did not occur.

Caching and updates

A decoded technical result may be cached to improve speed and reduce repeated requests to the public source. Technical data can be incomplete or corrected later. Verify purchase-critical information with the vehicle, its documents and the relevant authority.
